A Letter from our Athletic Director
Dear Blue Ridge Christian Parents, Students, and Families,
I am extremely excited to take the position of Athletic Director at Blue Ridge Christian School. The program has been very successful and in such good hands with Lois Gullman at the helm and I would like to continue the path that she has set while continuing to grow the program as we begin our new journey of adding a high school. I am thrilled that Coach Gullman will continue on in her role of running the K-5th grade athletic program afterschool. My goal is to see the middle/high school athletic program grow over the next few years becoming more competitive in nature with added sports offerings and teams.
I would like to share with you a little more information about myself. I have been in the field of athletics, including education and administration since graduating from college in 1993. I graduated from Clearwater Christian College in Florida with a degree in Education and have 15 years of experience in athletic administration. I have 20 years of experience coaching basketball, including a State Championship Team, 2 Regional Final Teams, numerous District Champion Teams, and two teams that went undefeated. I plan to continue my coaching tenure as the girls’ basketball coach. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Melinda, for the past 20 years and have four great kids: Kaley (18 – at Western Carolina University), twins Caleb and Elijah (15 – attend the School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton), and Cade (13 –at Blue Ridge Christian School).
I will want the BRCS athlete challenged to do his or her very best with his or her God given talents not for selfish gain, but for the glory of God and the good of the team. Competing to win will be strongly emphasized, without sacrificing the display and the development of Christ-like character. Athletic training and competition provide numerous opportunities to instill Biblical principles, such as subjecting oneself to authority, working together as members of a team, and controlling the impulses that often arise in competition.
The mission of the Blue Ridge Christian Athletic program will be to provide an excellent sports program that will allow and encourage our student athletes to develop their God-given abilities. We want our student athletes to honor and glorify God in all that they do (I Corinthians 10:31), understanding that athletics is something that God allows us to do, not something that defines us. God alone may have first place in our lives (Matthew 6:33).
I am eager to bring my experience and expertise in athletics to BRCS, and I look forward to working closely with and getting to know all of you. I will be working over the summer lining up coaching positions and will update you soon on what is planned for the fall sports season. Together with the athletes, parents, coaching staff and our supportive administrative team, I am confident we can build on the strong foundation already in place and take the program to new heights!
Thank you for this opportunity,
Athletic Director BRCS
