Our mascot is found throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. The black bear is noted for its loyalty and commitment to its cub. In return for her fierce protection, the mother bear expects her cubs to heed and obey the lessons of life. "Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, rather than a fool in his folly." (Proverbs 17:12)
